Apple TV 4 preset or good encoding

Post by Tech198 »

What would be the correct present for Apple TV 4 in version 1.0.3 of Handbrake for MacOS ?

Since yo now have all new presents and while I possibly could still use the legacy Apple TV 3 preset. the new ones are looking better.

However, based on the Apple TV 4 tech specs the only thing that doesn't match is the Apple TV 4 has slightly lower profile compared to the "Fast 1080p Full HD" I was going to use..

Will this be a problem ? The source is i'm coming from is DVD, but i am looking for better quality, so i'm not sure up-scaling would be any better, since how can u add more detail to something that isn't there in the first place.

Upscaling is dumb and not supported in the HB GUI.

The Apple presets should be a good place to start.

True, but weather its up-scaling or converting too, its still the same result.... There still ca't be more pixels, is what i was getting at.. I know pscaling is not supported.

I'm actually after the Apple TV 4 specifically... I don't really care about legacy stuff, just wondering if the new Fast 1080p (or even 720p) present would work on Apple TV 4 despite the lower profile.

The Apple presets are designed to work with most recent Apple devices.

The Apple 1080 preset should give you better results than the Fast 1080 preset, as well as better audio support.

For my ATV4's I've been using the Apple 1080p60 Surround with great results.
