HandBrake nigthly: are good sttings for UHD and H.265? Verify please!

Post by FoxAdriano »

Hi, I have just installed HandBrake Nightly. My Sony AX100 camera is 4K and records: 100 Mbps, 3.840 × 2.160 pixel/25p (progressive), 16:9.
I'm inexperienced about technics.
If I need to make the best quality of the picture in UHD (4K) and H.265 file, is HandBrake Nightly configured fine or is it better to modify something on that config?

It's fine out of the box. Modify the settings to suit your preferences.

There are presets covering most cases/devices, start with those and tweak if necessary.

Sorry but I don't see any preset for UHD (4K) and H.265. I created that preset in the pic.

What don't you like about the out of the box configuration? Change that.

You don't need a preset for a resolution; pick the encoder you want and save your preset.

Sorry but you have confused my ideas even more with your answers. I already know that you are not obliged to answer. Please don't reply me anymore if you don't like to answer in detail. It seems you don't know every setting on HandBrake. Anyway thanks.

Try the Roku 4k setting, seems to do what you want.

Where is Roku 4K settings please? Where can I see it? But what I'm trying to tell you, I have just invented HandBrak Nightly settings (look at the pic) and I'm happy if someone can verify if they are good settings. All that. But maybe my english is not good and the communication is difficult. We made many posts without understanding anyhing. It was sufficient just one answer. ;)

Presets are on the right hand side of the program.

I still don't understand. Sorry. I want a preset for UHD.... than that preset is for H.264. I want to make UHD H.265. Then ... why do I have to make a fasr rendering if I want to get the best file? It seems nobody cannot verify my settings. Ok, no problem. I will ask in another forum. THANKS.

There is a preset called Roku 4k (or something similar)

This preset is designed for 4K output.

Try it.

Personally, I would set the frame rate to be Same as source and make a test file with Constant Framerate and another test file with Variable Framerate. If they both work, you might be able to get better results with Variable Framerate.

Then change the encoder to x265.

You don't need some huge suggestion with every setting spelled out for you. The defaults are good settings. Start with the defaults and make the changes you want, like the x265 encoder.

Now I understand better. I thank you but ......... I have just noticed unfortunately my HandBrake Nightly doesn't work fine. I will have to use again HandBrake 0.10.5.0. In fact HandBrake Nightly worked all the night (the last noght for around 8 hours) and it was around at 5% of its work. What a pity! Anyway thanks for your suggestions.

I don't know because HandBrake Nightly doesn't work fine. I will come back to HandBrake 0.10.5.0. I hope I will get the same output with this previous HandBrake 0.10.5.0 because those settings are simple settings. What is your thought?

My thoughts are you should get the nightly working.

Can you explain why it is not working?

I explain you better: I put a uncompressed file like the previous Handbrake then I clicked on start. I saw HandBrake was working fine and already was exporting fine the H.265 file. Thefore I went to bed and the follow day (today in the morning) I noticed Handbrake was still working. It did not finish its work yet. It exported only around a 5-10% of that file (after around 8 hours).
I have installed this file:
HandBrake-20161216-7d5ad09_x86_64-Win_GUI.exe
Now I have unistalled it and installed it again. Now I like to try again.

This can be normal behaviour depending on which settings you used.

Please post your logs so we can see your settings.

Now I'm trying again, HandBrake seems is working fine but if you see the pic you will notice it will need 1 day, 9 hours and 5 minutes to finish the work. I have installed HandBrake Nightly again but I don't know if I will stop it or I will let it at the end of its work. What is your opinion?

You can change the speed by adjusting the encoder preset (currrently set at slower).

This will be at a cost of size and/or quality.
