We did usability testing to Handbrake

Post by Sokku »

Hi!

We are a group of computer science students from Finland and as a part of one course we had to choose one open source software and do usability testing for it. As we saw Romtom’s post on the Handbrakes forums we decided to post these results to forums. What we did was heuristic analysis, cognitive walkthrough and usability tests with users. We understand that Handbrake may be done for advanced users but we think that our findings from usability test would benefit both novice and advanced users.All of our findings are presented in usability test report which you can read here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxxLcB ... sp=sharing. Based on our findings we have also made some UI suggestions/feature request for HandBrake. Sketches related to our suggestions found here http://imgur.com/a/CW3z3.

Well, you are a dedicated and capable group.
In that same sense, is it reasonable to assume that at some point, your section 6 will be reinforced with your own code submissions?

Hi, thanks.

Unfortunately we don’t have time to familiarize ourselves with Handbrakes source code nor do changes to it. We posted our usability test report here because we wanted to show our findings and help you to make Handbrakes Windows GUI better and easier to use. But due the limitations of resources we have to leave implementation of these changes to Handbrake team at least at this point.

@Sokku:

Some of the suggestions in your report have already been implemented (specifically, revisions 7117, 7118, and 7125). Others are in discussion.

You can follow our code progress on Trac https://trac.handbrake.fr/timeline.

Thank you.
