Re-encode or process otherwise

Post by Ripman »

Hi everyone. Merry. I have been using HB successfully for a bit, but I am new to the forum.

The attached log shows an encode I did recently. It came out perfectly; I did x.264 high w commentary on track 2 and the iso score on track 3. Very nice.

Encode done!
HandBrake has exited.
So, a few seconds of PSA related to the movie rating was at the very end of the MKV file. Not really a problem.

If I wanted to get rid of that PSA, would it be better to: 1. re-encode with HB using time intervals (like 0:00 to "start of the PSA") or; 2. use some tool to extract everything from my successfully encoded MKV up until the start of the PSA?

Thanks.

You could use mkvtoolnix to trim off the end bit if you want. If you prerip with MakeMKV, you could trim it before feeding it to Handbrake.

Thanks SC.

The mkvtoolnix suggestion is kind of where I started. Then I figured that I needed to get MakeMKV to get rid of the unwanted PSA. I'll get back to this one and let you know what I did. It's something that MakeMKV needs to strip out before HB processing.

MakeMKV isn't going to strip anything out of what it thinks it is supposed to rip. It doesn't edit.

Thanks again SC. I want to check that I am using MakeMKV properly for this particular BD. I may need to tweak the "skip titles shorter than..." option or something like that.

If that doesn't work, then I go with the encode I have and mkvextract.

If the playlist for the file includes that PSA, then MakeMKV will include it in the ripped file since MakeMKV doesn't know anything other than what the playlist says should be there.
