Hanbrake works great for 3gp, but does anyone have a recommendation for a product to convert DVD files to avi or Quicktime for use in Final Cut. The ultimate goal would be to go back to DVD.
I found a program called dvdxdv which has a demo version. It created a large file (watermarked in the demo) that is readable by FCP. I have yet to master the art of deinterlace or detelecine or de-something to make it 23.98 and still have audio in sync.
with some learning and disk space, AviDemux can do inverse telecine and output to .avi (mjpeg+wav) OR for even better quality use .avi(ffhuffyuv+wav) if you have a couple hundred free gigs and Perian installed.
That can then be imported into FCP (but will still need rendering) and edited
