Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Trek Into Darkness
...came out on DVD here in the UK today.
When running through Handbrake straight from the DVD or via a rip made from MTR it only shows two titles, 96 & 97 both 11secs long.
Obviously this isn't out in the US yet, a forum post somewhere else on the net suggests the disc has new copy protection. Just a heads up really as there doesn't look like a way around it yet.

Assuming you are looking to rip the DVD for your own personal use or as a backup... Yes, Paramount appear to be using a new copy protection scheme that Handbrake and VLC can't bypass (yet).
Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
You need to upgrade your ripping workflow - the fix for this has been out for nearly a week.AndyW wrote:...came out on DVD here in the UK today.

No, that's one of the upgrades he'll need to make.Smithcraft wrote:AnyDVD is available for OS X?

Yep, naturally is for my own backup, more specifically so I can play on my AppleTV.
I guess I'll have to wait for a work around to come via Handbrake and the other mac app's, as I don't see buying a Windows computer to use AnyDVD an 'upgrade.

That has to be one of the stupidest upgrades ever.mduell wrote:No, that's one of the upgrades he'll need to make.Smithcraft wrote:AnyDVD is available for OS X?
I would venture to guess that MakeMKV will get upgraded any minute now, so wait for 1.8.5. Or watch the MakeMKV forums to see what happens.

I wouldn't expect any update from HandBrake to address this - they're not playing the disk protection game.AndyW wrote:I guess I'll have to wait for a work around to come via Handbrake and the other mac app's, as I don't see buying a Windows computer to use AnyDVD an 'upgrade.

No, but works fine from a VMWare instance for me. Apparently, it can take over disc handling through the virtualization layer.Smithcraft wrote:AnyDVD is available for OS X?

I just use it to rip a copy onto a folder I shared from the MacOS side. Works fine.

That was a rhetorical question to mduell.

I ran into a similar problem with the U.S. version last night. We're running Ubuntu & Mint Linux, not Windows. The correct title is #60. All Handbrake can see (tried it on two different computers) is a handful of tracks. 96 thru 99, or something like that.

Had the same problems that everybody else is talking about with HB, but I got it to work perfectly on the US version of the movie with the latest version of MakeMKV, followed by converting with Handbrake.
Hope that helps

World War Z, too, seems to have this issue.
Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
Well, you had better get yourself ripping software then!
Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
That worked well for me. Thanks for the tip. It's unfortunate that studios are forcing us to go to these lengths to do something which should be legal (in most people's opinion.) We paid for it, we should be able to view it on whatever device we want.Swalo66 wrote:Had the same problems that everybody else is talking about with HB, but I got it to work perfectly on the US version of the movie with the latest version of MakeMKV, followed by converting with Handbrake.
