Handbrake Crash

Looking for advice on experience with a MacBook Pro running Lion (have not upgraded yet to Mountain Lion). I have the very latest Handbrake (9.8) and a patched VLC. Purchased the following movies: "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" and "Avengers." Like many, I rip movies and store them on my laptop for use on my Ipod Touch. "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" rips without a problem. "Avengers" consistently crashes Handbrake.

Any advice or thoughts?

What do you mean by "patched VLC"?

It has. A full disc scan of The Avengers will crash HandBrake 0.9.8... using the Open Source (Title Specific) option works.
