Squeezed subtitles after cropping

Hi,
I now searched for this for some time but cannot find anything about this. (Am I the first one to have this problem?)

After encoding a video and cropping the black bars up and down the display aspect ratio is changed of course. But (at least with vlc and mplayer) the display aspect ratio of the included VOBSUB subtitles seem to be changed, too. They are squeezed together and smaller in height in my result.

Can I do anything about this?

My picture settings in HandBrake were:
Dimensions: 720x576
Aspect: 4:3
Autocrop: Off
Crop: 72:72:0:0
Crop Dimensions: 720x432
Scale Dimensions: 720x432
Optimal for Source: On
Anamorphic: Strict

I'm sorry, I didn't expect this to be that related to HandBrake internals.

I found the log and it has a lot of unrelated information from scanning other images in it, so I try to paste only the relevant lines here. If something is missing let me know.
