I've found that while doing CRF encodes, you can benefit greatly from using QPRD. It may be slow, but the hugely reduced file size and increased quality is well worth it to me. But what I'm confused about is what this method is doing that trumps the other methods by so much. I feel like people are preferring to stay away from dreadfully slow settings, but after fiddling with an excellent high profile setting that's been created for me by Rodeo that will be compatible with Apple TV and iPhone 3GS, I've created a preset that makes really great video with incredibly small file sizes.
Of all the settings I've tweaked, I've found QPRD to be the most beneficial. Why is this? Why is it so much better than subme=9?

I've seen that... but I'm kind of lost. Also I'd like an answer more related to file sizes.
