VC-1 CODEC ?

Post by tdtran1025 »

Since HB is the last step of the process of digitization, I would like to ask if there's a chance of support for vc-1 codec in the future. Maybe I should clarify. I just bought a box set of BBC Life Series Oprah version and HB can't seem to handle the video codec.
Not that I have any sympathy for BBC going this route but I am stuck with what I bought. I just want to be able to transcode it.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

AFAIK VC1 is ok, it's just interlaced VC1 that's unsupported. Have you tried encoding it or did you give up when you say VC1?

MS Expression Encoder (free) might support it.

I'm pretty sure the BBC series is 1080i vc1, which as mduell said currently is not supported by ffmpeg.

Thank you gentlemen for pointing that out. Had I known that before hand, I would have bought the 2009 version with D. Attenborough which is encoded with mpeg2, and it's cheaper. This is a deliberate attempt on BBC to give MS an upper hand with their proprietary codec.

You are correct, it's 1080i VC-1, which is not supported. Hopefully they'll be able to add it in the future. Does anyone know of any other tools that may work?
