Stretching 4x3 to 16x9 without cropping?

Post by Phototaker »

I have read the help wiki about aspect ratio & I am still a bit confused. I have been asked to create a new MPEG4 file using Handbrake. The source video is shot in 4x3 ratio & I have been asked to create a copy that in MPEG4 that is 16x9. But this I mean we are after a new file that has stretched the original file & hasn't cropped the top & bottom of the original picture.

Can Handbrake do this & if so how is it done?

Picture window. Custom anamorphic. Disable 'Keep Aspect'. Set desired PAR.

Hi John,

Can you please be more specific on the settings? If source is 720x576,
modulus?
display width?
PAR with?
PAR height?

Pixel aspect ratio for 16x9 PAL material is 64/45 - or you can simply manually set the display width to 1024 and have PAR calculated for you. Modulus isn't that important... some hardware decoders have issues with mod2 and you will get a minor improvement in compression efficiency for mod16. I tend to use mod4 if I adjust it at all.
