4gig File Size Limit

Post by apquinn »

Is there an estimated release date for a fix to the 4-gig file size limit?

I am pretty sure the limit is not related to a bug in Handbrake but a limitation of QuickTime/AppleTV/FrontRow to read a video file larger than 4GB. There also might be a limit in the MP4 spec to GB but I am less sure of that.

Well we have a working fix. The problem is it breaks compatibility with a few devices, so it's been removed until we figure out a graceful way of handling it.

If you want to patch yourself, you can find the fix here:

I have a 7.2 GB QT file that plays fine in QuickTime.

I can't export it (passthrough) to MP4 though unless it's trimmed to under 4 GB.
