Trellis, no-dct-decimate, & 2-pass

Post by cbud »

I was reading on the web about the options used in the HB Apple TV preset and read that some think Trellis should only be used with 2-pass and should not be used with no-dct-decimate.

Do the HB devs agree with this?

You're entirely right about no-dct-decimate, as backed up by http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=115604

This happened because I put together the @tv option set when it was using constant rate factor, not average bitrate. When you don't have a set bitrate/file size, no-dct-decimate does make sense. I'll ask dynaflash to change it for the next release.

As far as trellis...according to Manao in this other doom9 thread ( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=105904 ), it will increase quality at a given bitrate, so I'm not sure it's a bad thing for average bitrate, even with just 1 pass.
