Please clarify this error message from libdvdread

Post by mike693 »

My last three rips have this error (three different DVDs).

Code: Select all

*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1568 ***
*** for c_adt->cell_adr_table[i].vob_id <= c_adt->nr_of_vobs ***
I have never seen it before, and am surprised to see it on three in a row.

I am not done testing, and may still get these to work. However, so far, one failed at 100% in the GUI, and the second with a bus error in the CLI.

I am using HB 0.8.5b1 on Mac OS X 10.4.9.

I am ripping using DVD decryptor, RipIt4Me/FixVTS, and DVD shrink on Windows XP. It is rare that I have copy protection troubles with this setup, even with newer discs.

Does this error message mean that I am sending malformed DVDs to HandBrake? / What does it mean?

Thank you.

[EDIT: Apologies, I meant to post this in Support!]

Generally means its not able to read the DVD data.

Try AnyDVD - Seems to fix most issues with problematic dvds

Why not just use the latest version of Mac the ripper?

I use AnyDVD to rip the disk on Windows then use Handbrake on my Mac to encode to H.264. I am also seeing a lot of these libdvdread error messages in the Mac console. I am having problems with the sound completely disappearing approx half way through the encoded film and I wondered whether these two things are related.

@sr55
Thanks for confirming the error. I tried AnyDVD with no improvement. Will have to give MTR a go. As this isn't an HB problem, will not take up any more time with this thread. Cheers.

Both may be releated due to copy protection. As I understand it, if the studios released titles to the DVD spec, then these problems shouldn't happen.

Try running FixVTS on the files; don't know if there is a mac equivalent.
