mbtree is unlikely to get into a snapshot soon. Too many unknowns and as you pointed out some unfinished work for a few corner cases. We are however digging into the CRF scale change issue.

Did some anamorphic iPhone encodes at 640x480 (853x480 anamorphic) and they looked awesome! On the windows version the app crashed though, so I had to use the CLI, but on the Mac it was all good. When can we expect the next snapshot with softsub support? I can't seem to compile it myself (I'm aware that there is a guide, but I guess my compiling/linux skills aren't adequate). Keep up the good work mates!

By the way, I don't think I have read anything about chapter markers with stills/pictures (like iTunes movies have). I know Compressor (Final Cut Studio) can do it, but that's too expensive for a hobbyist. There is an example track on the Subler googlecode page. Cheers!

Hi, I'm newbie

Yesterday I downloaded svn2592 and tested with mac(13', unibody).

I tried to encode a chapter from a music dvd as max. quality as long as my ipod classic(160g) can read and play.
The encoding test's result is like this

This mp4 file encoded as followings :

video: x264, Baseline@L3.0, 720*480(anamorphic 853*480), 2600kbps(intentionally applied to over 2.5Mbps)
audio : 320Kbps AAC

But it was successful for my ipod to read and play this mp4 file.

How is it possible ? According to the Classic Specification, it can only read video file less than 640*480(307,100)

No, the iPod classic has always been far more capable than Apple's specs say.

Umm I just discovered the same wonderment on my iPhone. I've been going nuts trying to encode 640x480 (anamorphic 853x480), and the newest Mac gui forces it to 720, which I never used cuz I thought it was impossible for the iphone to play it. Stupid me. Clearly it does play 720x480, and now I'm enjoying true-DVD resolution as well...Who knew? (Jobs did, that's who.)
