Early exit.

Post by ncc1701d »

With great trepidation I submit my "please help me" post. The search I did came up with a thread for "developer discussion & Patch submission only" - way out of my depth

80% of encoding work well (appletv setting), but 20% I get a fast blue line going to 100% and it appears to hang (end of activity log says "exit early").

Thanks

Your source is messed up. Bad practice, too, to remaster to a single vob. You should be feeding HB a VIDEO_TS directory.

Thanks for the reply. When I try to select just the folder Video_TS, it just comes back with "No Valid Source Found". So then I click on the folder to get straight to the .vob file, it seems to work for a lot of rips. If I try and encode any other way, I start to get multiple vob folders and then I have to try and join them all together which I can't seem to do very well.

I was wrong about the numbers of encoding percentage wise. It's more like 90% work and 10% failure. Cheers.

I'm saying you should be ripping the entire VIDEO_TS from the DVD instead of screwing with the mastering.

When I rip with MTR, I select "Mode" and then "Title only Extraction", then select the longest of the titles that appear. If I do it any other way, then when it creates the vob files, they are in multiple folders (within a Video_TS folder). If I then try and use Handbrake, it will only encode the first folder of .vob. So, then my option is to try and join all the encoded vob's (which I haven't been able to to do succesfully yet). Is that what you getting at  So that's why I've just ripped the title only and get one big vob... :? :(

The correct way of doing this is as follows:-
  1. Rip the disc using MTR using either Full Disc or Main Feature extraction. This will generate a VIDEO_TS folder containing numerous VOB and IFO files.
  2. Using Handbrake, you open the VIDEO_TS folder.
If you have the latest copy of VLC installed, in many cases you can simply select the DVD and work straight from disc.

Thanks Jake, I don't know why I had it in my head that I couldn't use handbrake directly form the disc, without the need to rip it first.

Thanks TedJ for the reply. When I first got handbrake, I thought that this was what I was doing. Then, it didn't work for a few dvd's, so I started fiddling with "main feature extraction", "title only" etc. To which the last one worked on more DVD's and created just the one .vob. Except for a few DVD's when I decided to post the first question. Now I've done exactly what you've said and so far it's working perfectly. Obvioulsy I'd thought I was doing the right thing when I wasn't  So, that's my excuse for it looking like I hadn't read all the material, but promise I did! :)

So, thanks for your reply and your restraint :D
