handbrake doesnt make a .mp4 video only an exec file!

Post by pepelara »

Description of problem or question:
extracting bluray information to convert the video to .mp4.
done it very well a lot of times, but now each time I try to do it , using the same procedure, handbrake appears to be working normal, says it finished the conversion, but when I review the final archive in the destination folder, only see an exec file. (Unix executable - 1.45 GB) instead of seeing an .mp4 video converted !!
any idea?

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

extracting a bmv to .mp4

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

1.4.0

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
Mac os catalina
imac mid 2015 processor 3.3 GHZ QUAD CORE INTEL CORE i5
memory 24Gb 1600 mhx ram ddr3
graphics AMD radeon R9 M290 2GB

What happens if you ask for the file extension to be ".m4v", which is what the Mac normally expects? Have you tried renaming the file to use .m4v as its extension?

Is that the end of the log? Looks like HandBrake is crashing mid-encode.

Can you provide a log of a working Blu-ray encore for comparison?

I've never tried to encode BD titles "direct from optical disk", since it involves 3rd-party libraries that are outside the control of the handbrake team.

I always have MakeMKV rip the video first, then process the MKV files through handbrake. That reduces the chance for disk flaws and encryption anomalies from interrupting the encode.
