Handbrake tries to connect to yahoo, why?

Post by bunk3m »

Description of problem or question:
Today while running a job using Handbrake 1.3.3, Little Snitch stopped an attempt by Handbrake to connect to:
On Jan 27, 2021, HandBrake via LookupViewService.xpc tried to establish a connection to apple-finance.query.yahoo.com. The request was denied via connection alert.
Normally Handbrake connects to github and s3.amazonaws.com to look for updates but this yahoo request is the first time I've seen it.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):
Just leave Handbrake 1.3.3 running for a while.

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):
1.3.3

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
MacOSX 10.14.6

HandBrake Activity Log ***required*** (see How-to get an activity log)
I searched through the logs and there is no reference to the connection attempt. So the activity log won't be helpful.

LookupViewService is the built-in macOS functionality that can be invoked by right clicking on some text and selecting "Look Up" from the contextual menu, or by force-touching on the trackpad.

The connection is made by LookupViewService.xpc, which is a macOS built-in service, outside HandBrake reach.
