Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
You do have a fairly high RF or 24, maybe try 20 (lower RF, higher quality)?

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
Standard config for the Apple 2160p60 setting..RF 24.
I'll try 20 and let you know in about 4 days

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
You don't HAVE to encode the whole source - just enough of it to see if there is an issue.

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
Thanks for the tip. I was going out of town and wasn't going to be home to monitor the transcode, but things have changed.
More to follow.

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
Thanks.
I did try changing the RF settings to 20, even tried going down to 15. No change in the distortion issue.
I did get some encouraging results with the Apple Video Toolbox.
https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code ... C7FXs7eiFV
The picture quality was very washed out. Poor contract/brightness.
I didn't see any way to modify the settings. The file size was about twice what the previous HB file was.
I'll run it again using the VT and then send the logs.

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
Are there any thoughts on when/if Handbrake will properly implement handling 4K UHD mkv files?
My logs and such have been sitting seemingly untouched for about 6 weeks now.

Have you submitted a patch for review on github?pbarker1701 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 8:37 amAre there any thoughts on when/if Handbrake will properly implement handling 4K UHD mkv files?

The main developers are all volunteers, and may not be working on your preferred features or schedule.

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
Thanks for the thoughts and the attitude.
I'm not asking for anything more then just some idea of what's going on.
No preferred schedule, just curious as to whether the issue is even on their radar.
As to "it will happen when it happens", how very Zen of you.

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
I know you guys work on your own schedule, but any idea when the issue of color washout when transcoding 4K UHD files might be addressed?

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
I'll have to check my settings when I get home but I have no issue encoding 4k HDR on my mac mini in handbrake and using plex or infuse to play to my ATV4k connected to my denon x3300w to my LG OLED B6 TV. Been doing it for years.
Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
This is what happens when you play back a file with HDR on a TV that doesn't support HDR(or AVR) or isn't set correctly. Are you sure your TV is engaging HDR mode? ATV4k set to match? Watch via plex or infuse.pbarker1701 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 6:37 pm Thanks.

I'll check my Samsung setting to see what it is set for.

Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
I'd appreciate knowing what setting you are using in Handbrake (specifically h.265 vs h.264) and how long it takes for transcoding.
Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
sorry I was going to check when I got home and complete spaced it. Off the top of my head I use H.265 10 bit. RF of 16 on 4k and 18 on 1080.pbarker1701 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 12:27 am I'd appreciate knowing what setting you are using in Handbrake (specifically h.265 vs h.264) and how long it takes for transcoding.
Keep original aspect ratio and frame rate. I don't use the apple preset. Probably just the generic h265. I use MKV. Any forced subtitles I burn in. I always use the best audio track, usually DTSHD or TrueHD.
Time it takes varies on the movie and the processor. My PC has a Intel 5820 and that will take about 12-14 hours for a 4k movie. On my mini I have an Intel 8700 and it halves that time. At this point I have thousands of movies i've collected from over the years. Using plex I can play on a variety of devices/tvs both inside and outside the house and share to friends and family. I use infuse for watching on my apple tv's but on all other devices I use plex for viewing.
Re: Not so much 4K video compatible.
are you sure your samsung and your AVR support HDR? Could also be a HDMI cable issue. Also, don't use the tv app or itunes for playback. Use plex as your server on your computer and use infuse on the ATV. You can use plex but infuse is better here.pbarker1701 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 12:25 am I'll check my Samsung setting to see what it is set for.
