I know Apple TV 4K support 7.1 channel decoding. Previously, only AC3 (5.1 channel) would work. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts/suggestions on how encode 7.1 channel audio for ATV 4K? I tried using CoreAudio 7.1 as codec for audio track 2, but it's not coming through. I'm only getting Stereo, and ATV doesn't show any other audio tracks.
If this has been discussed before, sorry for the duplicate thread. Search wasn't returning anything relevant to my question.
7.1 audio for Apple TV 4K possible?

You need an E-AC-3 (Dolby Digital Plus) encoder with 7.1 support. There is no such encoder in HandBrake at the moment (ours it still limited to 5.1, I think).

Ah, ok, thanks for the reply.

You could try, if AAC works for you. AAC in HandBrake supports 7.1 channels, and AppleTV 4k supports AAC.
The EAC3 7.1 issue needs to be fixed in FFmpeg. https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/issues/1085

Unfortunately, only the E-AC-3 solution is workable as multichannel AAC over HDMI is basically not a thing.
