Handbrake 1.30 audio track selection

Description of problem or question:

When I picked up Handbrake 1.3.0 I discovered that conversions from MKV to MP4 resulted in a video that had no audio soundtrack. Handbrake was not (automatically) selecting the available audio track. The default selection was "None" even though there IS an audio track available. I had to manually toggle and choose it and it's annoying if I have to do that for every conversion? That was not the usual behavior when using 1.2.2
Does anyone have a suggestion or fix for this? I

Yes, I see the Selection Behavior choices, but by default 1.3.0 chooses "None" when loading a video. I don't want to have to always manually, going to the AUDIO tab and choosing that one AAC audio track that's there. I'm trying to train the app to do this. The behaviour in version 1.2.2 is how it SHOULD operate which is automatically loading that audio track?

It appears HandBrake is using a preset named "Normal". Is this a custom preset you created, or is it one of the ancient built-in presets that came with a much older version of HandBrake? If the latter, you need to "Reset Built-in Presets" from the presets menu and choose one of the new presets. I'm guessing that the old "Normal" preset you are using didn't import properly.

Ahhh, I didn't create a special PreSet. It was the "Normal" that I'm always just using that was there. I haven't created any Custom Presets. Thanks for the fix suggestion. If I can figure that out I'll do it!

Same issue here. All of my presets have no audio selected by default. It seems I can not save new presets to include audio either.

@Donnage @Questor74 Please let us know whether Presets > Reset Official Presets solves the issue. We'll look into why this might not be happening automatically with a new release.

I experienced the same problem. My default preset was carried straight over from Handbrake 1.2.2 As a temporary expedient I have returned to 1.2.2 to reprocess some of my recent files which had all ended up with no sound. When this has been doen I plan to re-upgrade to 1.30 and then , if I cannot reimport my preferred preset, try to set it up again under 1.3 Does that sound a reasonable approach?

Hi, I have now gone bck to version 1.30. Having reset the official preset (from the presets menu) I have now been able to create and modify presets and the sound is fine.

I'm still a bit confused by all the options and am experiemtning with setttings to try to get a reasonably high quality format (for streaming to an Apple TV 4K) but not to have one that takes too long to do the processing.

Thanks for the ideas suggested in this topic - very helpful.

There is an issue with custom presets potentially having no audio when upgrading from earlier versions to 1.3.0. We hope to have this fixed for 1.3.1. In the meantime, the workaround is to manually recreate presets.

@ricric You will probably find the Devices > Apple * presets useful. If you're not actually starting with 4K sources, the Apple 1080p presets should be reasonably fast and do what you want. The Apple 2160p preset makes H.265/HEVC video and is slower to encode.
