16x9 video comes out in 4x3...?

Post by AvileeG »

Hello all,

First, sorry if I don't have all the best terminology, I'm a newbie at this... I have been digitizing old recordings of my dance performances, with mostly no problem -- but one DVD which plays in widescreen 16x9 on both my computer and my DVD player is somehow translated to 4x3 when I extract it with Handbrake.

I have tried adjusting the options in the Dimensions menu -- from Anamorphic "off" to "auto" to "custom." The storage size shows as 720x480, but display size as 640x480, and the numbers are grayed out so that I can't adjust them. Whatever I do, the extracted file comes out in a 4x3 aspect ratio (with the dancers appearing extremely tall and thin).

I am using Handbrake 1.2.2; my OS is OSX El Capitan 10.11.5. Below is the activity log for my most recent attempt. I'd greatly appreciate any ideas, thank you!

Thank you! Since all of my previous scans had been DVDs with multiple separate titles, it had not occurred to me that I could open the entire VIDEO_TS folder to scan. It worked fine, thanks again!
