NO VALID SOURCE FOUND - Compact Disc

Purchased a new BD burner (LG WH16NS40) and updated Handbrake. Handbrake scans a silver-pressed CD (I tried several different titles), recognizes the correct number of tracks and immediately throws up the "No Valid Source Found" error message. Then I tried a commercial copy-guarded DVD and it scanned it just fine. So my issue is only with CDs. The "Audio CD" appears on the desktop and will play in both VLC and JRiver Media Center 22.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable): Put in a silver-pressed CD or CD-R, try to scan it. Handbrake proceeds normally and then throws up the error message.

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0): 1.2.0 (2018122200)

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update): Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 - 27" iMac (c. 2013) 3.5GHz Core i7, 32MB Memory

HB is a video transcoder, it will not do anything with an audio CD.

And remember, handbrake is NOT intended for ripping DVDs or Bluray, either. It does not do decryption of commercial disks.

There are specialized tools for that, such as MakeMKV, which handle most forms of copy protection.

Does that mean the link to VLC's libraries have been severed?

Wow: that's interesting!

It was 9 years ago, I was doing my research and moderated a panel on "Piracy - can we compete with free?" in 2010.
