Issue with VOB files including an DTS audio track

Post by Chamarel »

Description of problem or question:
I ripped several DVD that I just bought (with another software), obtaining several VOB files. I tried to compress them in mp4. It worked for all of them but 2. Comparing the log file, I saw this :

19:20:23] file is MPEG Program Stream
[19:20:24] Probing 3 unknown streams
[19:20:24] Probe: Found stream DTS. stream id 0xbd-0x89
[19:20:24] Found the following streams
[19:20:24] Video Streams :
[19:20:24] Audio Streams :
[19:20:24] 0xbd-0x85 type AC3 (0x81)
[19:20:24] 0xbd-0x89 type DTS (0x82)

while in the one that worked there was (the rest before is identical)

[19:33:49] file is MPEG Program Stream
[19:33:51] Probing 3 unknown streams
[19:33:51] Probe: Found stream mpeg2video. stream id 0xe0-0x0
[19:33:51] Found the following streams
[19:33:51] Video Streams :
[19:33:51] 0xe0-0x0 type MPEG2 (0x2)
[19:33:51] Audio Streams :
[19:33:51] 0xbd-0x80 type AC3 (0x81)

NO video stream. I looked at all my different VOB files with media info and I remarked that the VOB that didn't worked ("no valid source found") had audio streams AC3 and DTS, while the one that worked had only AC3.
Seems that the presence of a DTS audio track generates a bug.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):
1.1.2

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
MacOS 10.11.6

What did you rip this with?

Try just ripping the titles you want as videos with MakeMKV.

Otherwise, I tried MakeMKV. It worked perfectly well. Thanks you.

But as the result has more or less the same size than the original file and that I haven't seen compression options, I have to compress it with HB.

It's OK but would be more efficient if HB would have worked on the VOB file.

Yes, we're saying you should use MakeMKV and then HandBrake.

HandBrake has no interest in playing games with the various protection schemes on disks, or the variety of malformed rips from half baked rippers.
