The best converse of DVD to m4v.

Post by mike-biker »

Description of problem or question:

Hello,
I have bought a lot of movie DVD's in my library and I want to rip it for m4v or mp4 to my iPhone XS Max.
Because I have 256GB version, I can use the best possible quality for conversion.
So can anybody advise me the best settings?
I don't want to create 8GB file from DVD, but I expect really the best result.
I'm not sure if I can use h264, or 265, Framerate (as sourcel?), or peak, Encoder options (Tune, Profile, Level) etc.
I know - using preset is OK, but I hope, that somebody is here, who has many experiences.
Thank you.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

1.1.2.

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

macOS 10.14.1 Mojave

Use the Apple preset that best suits your needs.

DVD sources are relatively low resolution, and not compressed particularly well. You really do not need to worry about losing much quality when compressing them, because there isn't that much to start with. :)

:D
I understand. But there is my personal videos too. So I want to rip it without losing quality. I know, that VOB isn't on top, but I don't want to lose all the more.

There is no quality to be gained in a DVD rip beyond using the presets provided.
It just doesn't exist.

20 ounces of water in a 5 gallon bucket is still a bottle of water.
