No valid title found

Post by scottiewilson »

Since upgrading to Leopard I cannot open any files. I always get the error message "no valid title found".
Can anyone shed any light please?

Not really, first I have heard of it. Have you tried it on a source that you know worked fine before you moved to leopard ? Are you scanning right from dvd or a pre-ripped folder on your hdd ?

Thanks for the swift reply. I'm trying it on a new file and an existing one. Same result

Same here...

I'm having the same problem here. I upgraded both of my Macs to Leopard. My iMac C2D 2.16ghz is still running Handbrake with out any issues. But my Macbook Pro 2.4ghz keeps giving me the "No Valid Title Found" message on any DVD I insert.

Both Macs are running Handbrake 0.91.

An .mp4 file isn't a DVD...see the program description at the top of every forum page.

That was a previously converted file. This is the Activity log for an mpeg file.

Just successfully encoded from a DVD so no problem with that but I'm convinced that I was previously able to encode avi and mpegs

Handbrake is a DVD or DVD like source to Mpeg4 Converter.
DVD's are in most cases Mpeg2. Mpeg4 files are not in a DVD like format

In the first instance you passed in a Mpeg4 file which is not supported.
In the second case you passed in a Mpeg2 file which is supported.

You cannot convert AVI's either. Handbrake has never been able to do this.

I'm having the same issue. Tried the newest Handbrake on a Mac running Leopard and it's a no-go. Tried the same version on another Ma running Tiger and it will work flawlessly. So, this does seem to be a Leopard issue.

I'll post my Activity Log here:

I'm curious scottiewilson. How were you able to resolve this issue? Were you able to do it in Leopard, or did you do it on Mac running a prior version of Mac OS X?

First of all, if you are having the same issue as above, then you are feeding HB unsupported files.

Semantics aside, do you have any useful suggestions? I am feeding Handbrake an actual DVD which it has no issues with on Tiger, but fails to recognize in Leopard.

I don't know exactly what to make of the log output, but it seems to me that it has trouble accessing the device or volume itself.

Well yes, my "useful suggestion" would be to not post in a thread describing an issue you do not have, but yet claim "I'm having the same issue." Then come back with a smart-ass remark when said fact is pointed out.

Who is being the smart-ass? The original post said:

I am having the same problem, even if the cause might be different. Your reply wasn't exactly very helpful or cheery either.

Anyway, I don't think I'm the only one with this issue. I think the same or a similar issue has already been mentioned here in another thread.

also having this problem

Post by moemoe »

I'm scared of jerks being snarky, but I guess I'll open myself up to the trolls and post here too.

I am also having this problem. Was not a problem in 10.4.10, but as soon as I "upgraded" to 10.5, my macbook no longer recognizes any title on any DVD - even older DVDs that I know don't have any protection.

This was not a problem previously on my powerbook with 10.4.10 et. al. ... any idea why it won't work on 10.5 and a new macbook?

Here's the log:

[20:55:07] hb_scan: path=/dev/disk1, title_index=0

For someone who is worried about "...jerks being snarky...", then you would think one would follow the rules and not double post.

Yes, plays beautifully in DVDapp and VLC. It's happened with 5 different DVDs so far, including one - I tried this just as a test - that I had copied with Popcorn about a year ago.

same thing here

Post by mduncan »

Since changing to a MacBook 2Ghz, I am getting "no valid title found" on any and all DVDs I insert and they previously worked fine. Could this be a new copy protection "feature" built into the drive hardware?

I doubt it, I am on a mbp c2d as well and have had no issues on tiger or leopard.
