Not unexpected. HandBrake ships with x265 2.6, not 2.7
2.7 is not supported yet. You can't just swap a library out and expect it to work. It requires API updates.

It would only work properly when there isn't API changes required. You've also got to consider that it's development code and not officially released so there may well be bugs as well.
Either way, this isn't supported, sorry.
We'll likely upgrade to x265 2.8 in the next couple of months when it's formally released.
