HandBrake is not a ripper, but you should be able to copy the *.DAT file(s)
from your Video CD to your computer. The *.DAT file contains an mpeg stream.

Not sure if you can feed the *.DAT file directly to HandBrake.
Otherwise there is a little command line helper than can extract to mpeg:

Code: Select all

vcdgear -dat2mpg source.DAT target.mpg

Thanks for the suggestion on vcdgear. When you say to run from Command line, you're talking about a Windows based machine? I'm assuming I would use Terminal if I were running on a Mac. Anyone know if this is the case?

The Mac versions of that software pre-date the Intel Macs, so you might not be able to run it on MacOS directly.

Get VCDGear v1.77 for MacOS X, it's for x86 and PPC and will work in Terminal.

But it might not be necessary. Just tried and HandBrake will happily open and convert avseq0*.dat files.

If HandBrake does not work, check out MacVCD X from Mireth.com
