Quick question (I hope). Is 10-bit HEVC primarily for HDR content?
Is there any reason I would encode my Blu-ray titles with 10-bit HEVC? (I assume no, since they're mostly AVC or MPEG2 on disc and probably don't support 10-bit color.)
10-bit HEVC for HDR only?

Re: 10-bit HEVC for HDR only?
Handbrake does not currently do HDR, so the answer is "no".
Re: 10-bit HEVC for HDR only?
Well, 10-bit (be it HEVC or H.264) can help a bit with some types of artifacts at low bitrates, due to the higher internal precision of the encoder. That's the only advantage you'll get encoding 10-bit through HandBrake.
Re: 10-bit HEVC for HDR only?
Thanks for the reply. I guess a similar answer would be in order for 12-bit. Are there any set top players (Roku, ATV, etc.) that handle anything above 8-bit? (I should note that I don't have any HDR titles so that's not my point in asking.)
Re: 10-bit HEVC for HDR only?
10-bit is largely for epeen and testing.
Re: 10-bit HEVC for HDR only?
Almost all devices with a HEVC hardware decoder out there supports 10bit, so probably your devices can already play it. Most H.264 hardware decoders can't decode 10bit.
