No 7.1 Available When Chosing DTS-HD MA...only 5.1

Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible:

Handbrake is unable to to display DTS-HD MA 7.1 Channels. It shows DTS-HD MA but only reads and lets me choose 5.1.
The image I'm working from was made my MakeMKV in windows. I've used it with handbrake in windows and been able to see 7.1. This appears to be a Handbrake for Mac issue. Is this a known issue with the Mac version?

Tell us about your environment. What version of HandBrake? What version of OSX are you running. etc.

Runnning MacOs High Sierra Beta....that's not the issue. Had the same issue before upgrading. Latest Nightly build of Handbrake.

HandBrake's DTS decoder cannot decode all types of additional channels. The only way to get 7.1 output out of HandBrake for this track is to use DTS-HD Passthru.

So are you saying this is a limitation of the Mac version? Because this works in windows. How would passthrough work if the stream is only being seen as 5.1...won'tit be passing through only the 5.1 core?

No, we can pass the full track directly from the source -- the thing we can't do is decode the extra channels, but that's not relevant for passthru. And no, the decoder's limitations apply to all versions, including HandBrake for Windows.

Thanks for the help...I'm really confused though because the track when I view it in windows from the same disc says:
0: English (DTS-HD MA) (7.1 ch)
...whereas on the Mac version it says the same but (5.1 ch)

this is regardless of whether Pass Through is chosen. In windows I can rip this to 7.1 channel Flac. On the Mac I can't.

I think (but I may be mistaken, been a while since I looked at the DTS decoder code) that our decoder can decode the additional channels if they're entirely coded within the XLL extension, so you may get 7.1 for a few audio tracks out there. But the vast majority have extra channels in the XXCH extension (with the XLL containing the difference to lossless for the core). But it's not possible for the decoder to parse/decode different channel layouts for the same audio track, on different platforms.
