Unable to select more than one subtitle

Post by tciuro »

Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible:

Is there a way top include more than one subtitle in the converted file?

I'm not sure if something has changed, but I could swear that in the past I was able to convert an mkv file to mp4 by including more than one subtitle. I have a sample file which contains eng, are and spa. I can only select one of them, and it's always burn-in.

When I play the converted file on my Apple TV, I always see the list of subtitles to be empty (even when I have selected any of the languages). I have other movies (converted in the past) where I can select the subtitle and it works great.

However, note that if I decide to re-export it as Matroska, I can add all subtitles!! It works awesome, except that playing the movie on the LAN is super slow and takes forever to initiate.

I really would like to save it as H264 for my Apple TV and be able to select any of the subtitles that should appear in the menu.

Tell us about your environment. What version of HandBrake? What version of OSX are you running. etc.

Mac OS X Sierra, 10.12

If there was any exception or error displayed, please copy it and paste it here:

No errors. Just the UI now allowing to select more than one subtitle. I select the second language (fre) and the UI redraws quickly showing <None>.

Please include the scan or encode log: \

Blu-ray subtitles cannot be placed in an MP4 container. You'll need to source SRT files from the internet and add them via the subtitles tab (making sure to select the character set corresponding to your file, some advanced text editors can guess it for you) if you want soft subtitles (that you can toggle on/off from a list) in an MP4 file.

What are you using to play the file on your AppleTV (and which model is it)?

MP4 doesn't support PGS subs.
