Mac OS 10.10.5 Handbrake 1.0.7
I'm confused because I don't remember seeing this issue before, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention...
Is there a reason why I can't output anything at full 1920X1080 resolution? My source video is 1080p, but no matter what I seem to try, my output video is smaller than the original in physical dimensions. In the "Picture" tab, the Source shows 1920 x 1080, but the "Storage" won't go higher than 1682 x 1036. It's the same for all 1080p presets.
I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but it does this straight "out of the box" with the newest version of Handbrake.
Thanks!
Brooks.

Code: Select all
[23:11:46] scan: 10 previews, 1920x1080, 23.976 fps, autocrop = 44/0/0/238, aspect 16:9, PAR 1:1 [23:11:46] + Crop and Scale (width=1682:height=1036:crop-top=44:crop-bottom=0:crop-left=0:crop-right=238) [23:11:46] + source: 1920 * 1080, crop (44/0/0/238): 1682 * 1036, scale: 1682 * 1036
Autocrop found black bars on two sides of your video, and you chose to use the autocrop result to crop your picture.
If you want to keep the full frame, manually set cropping to 0 on all sides.
Re: 1080p output at 1682x1036
D'oh! Thank you so much! I'm still not sure what I did differently then any other video I've edited in FCPX... It may be a single still image in the middle of the video that doesn't extend to the edges completely. Weird that it would see that even though the rest of the video is full 1080p edge to edge.
Re: 1080p output at 1682x1036
Handbrake does a check of a number of frames ("previews") throughout the video to see what should be cropped; increasing that count can sometimes get better auto-crop results, but I've found it simpler to just set manual crop like mduell says. Especially if there are subtitles involved - they're often placed in the "black bars".
Re: 1080p output at 1682x1036
Thanks! I went back and "fixed" all of the still images and it still did the same thing, so I think it was the titles/credits at the end.
