Handbrake for OS 10.6.8

Post by miklos »

Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible:

Earlier this week I was forced to carry out a 'clean install' on my iMac and I am now attempting to put back the original apps, etc.

I have always liked Handbrake and am trying to locate the version that will still work with OS 10.6.8.
I used Handbrake previously to great effect - I loved its ease and great results!
I don't know which version that I will need.
Don't know how I obtained the original version that I have now 'lost'.

Tell us about your environment. What version of HandBrake? What version of OSX are you running. etc.

I am using OS 10.6.8 with Java 6

See https://handbrake.fr/old.php

I've added the last version supported under the appropriate versions.

Thanks for the info, s55 (much appreciated).

From the list I presume that the version to go for will be 0.10.5 (the last version to support OSX 10.6) ????
From the listing - do I just opt for one of the 2 Mac downloads?
What is the different (CL1 or GUI) - I am confused.
Sorry to be such a novice!

Cheers
miklos

CLI is the command line interface, GUI is the graphical user interface.

Thanks for your explanation of the 2 Mac versions, Rodeo.

Do I need to download both (?) - I don't want to mess up my clean install by adding incorrect versions.

From what I can remember - I think I selected GUID when I performed the install which makes me think that I should opt for 'Mac GUI'.

Cheers - miklos

"Need" is based on your work flow. If you do not plan to write scripts to automate encoding, you can just use the GUI.

My work flow involves using scripts to do dozens or even hundreds of "mostly the same" encodes, so I need both. But using the CLI is very different from the graphic interface.

Where do you fall in this spectrum?

Thanks for your input, Woodstock

I have downloaded just the Mac GUI and (fingers crossed) it seems to be working perfectly on the OS 10.6.8.

It visually looks the same as previously and works the same with the same excellent results - so I think between us all it is solved ;-)

I don't want to tinker too much because of where I am in bringing the iMac back to life!

That's quite unrelated. Anyway, when in doubt, you want the graphical interface ;)
