Unable to check for software update

Post by bocaboy »

I've successfully installed HandBrake on my MacBook Pro, but can't run Software Update without receiving an error, pasted below. The program is definitely installed and being run from the Applications folder and is not being launched from a removable drive or an archive. I've checked permissions and they are set correctly for the application.

I'm running HandBrake 1.03 under Mac OS 10.12.4. I'm on a late-2016 15" MacBook Pro with Touchbar

That's an Apple security measure - if you don't take special measures to move the application out of the download area, it is treated as a read-only file. There is another topic here that links to the exact reason and fix (using finder).
