Handbrake no longer able to read blu-ray disks with MakeMKV extensions in ~/lib

Post by aol »

In beta, if you added symlinks to libaacs.dylib and libbdplus.dylib, both available in the MakeMKV package, as symlinks in ~/lib, Handbrake could seamlessly read a blu-ray disk just as it does DVDs, eliminating the need for MakeMKV to first decode the disk. With the latest version of HandBrake, has this feature been removed? Or moved?

Um, you're not "eliminating the need for MakeMKV to first decode the disk", you're telling MakeMKV to decode the disk and hand the result to handbrake rather than decode to an MKV file.

That linkage is not supported here, because it's outside of what handbrake is intended to do.

Never supported, only worked by chance, not reliable.

It does work just fine, Handbrake will use any extension/plug-in that becomes available to it on startup.

The MakeMKV software expires and has to be renewed every month, which is a pain. Another way to do it is via the following instructions:

This also can be done for DVDs, so you don't have to use MakeMKV at all, if you don't want to:

As I mentioned in multiple other threads replying to your bad advice, one can't even move files to /usr/lib with Apple's SIP.

It would be nice if people would stop recommending libdvdcss and linking to outdated articles about it. Creates a lot of support issues for us.

The "free while in beta" version of MakeMKV expires every two months, but a lot of people spend the money to get a permanent license, so that doesn't happen.

If you object to paying for something, life sometimes introduces some bumps in the road to happiness. Handbrake, is, fortunately, free. The "bumps" are that you don't always get the features you want, and there are the occasional broken things.
