dvd movies rarely rip anymore with handbrake

handbrake use to always rip dvd's and now maybe 1 out of 9 times it will work
problems, no valid source, the rip has bad video and audio all gibberish, or it can't choose the right title and it rips the wrong one.
but mac dvdripper pro works every time

i have handbrake Version 0.10.5 x86_64 (2016021100) on a mac pro OS X 10.11.6 (15G1108)
i have vlc installed and ffmpegx

is there something i am missing ?

Rip your discs with makemkv or similar before converting with HB.

VLC no longer supplies the 3rd-party library that did the DVD decryption for handbrake. If you look at your log, you will see a messages about "support for encrypted disks not available".

Since handbrake is not intended to rip video from protected media, there is no support for those 3rd-party libraries here, hence the advice to use a designed-for-ripping tool as the first step.

As I mentioned on another thread, one can't even move files to /usr/lib with Apple's SIP.

It would be nice if people would stop recommending libdvdcss and linking to outdated articles about it. Creates a lot of support issues for us.
