H.265 to ProRes?

Post by beantrouser »

So I understand that the latest edition of HandBrake can convert H.265 to ProRes. But when I choose my H.265 file, the only formats available to me in the Output Settings are MP4 and MKV.

I must be missing something painfully obvious, right?

Your understanding is flawed -- Handbrake can convert ProRes to H.265, not the other way round.
Besides, MKV and MP4 specify the container format, not the video format.

HandBrake converts from any format readable by libav (amongst them ProRes) to either H.264, H.265, or "Ffmpeg" (don't go there), contained in either MKV or MP4.

Encoding a highly compressed delivery stream to lossless won't improve it, if that is what you were thinking.
