m4v file from HB not recognized by imovie 09

Post by lamhbriste »

The m4v file that I got via HB is not recognized by imovie 09.

When I try to import it into imovie, imovie seems to try to import it, then it stops, and no import is actually done.

Is there another conversion step that I have to take?

Thanks.

Nope?

Well, something is wrong, as imovie is not accepting the file.

I posted the activity log above, as requested.

Does anyone see anything that is wrong?

Thanks.

You have an iMovie problem, not a HB problem. You'll probably have better luck in an iMovie forum.

Does iMovie 9 support MP4? A quick google search says limited support for MP4 was added in version 10, and that support is quite particular about what is allowed:
Technically, iMovie does import MP4 video. However, iMovie only import MP4 files that are encoded with MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC data. And yet, MP4 is a video container format that may contain various audio and video codec (and sometimes even subtitle streams included). If the MP4 file is not encoded with iMovie support codec, iMovie will refuse to import this kind of MP4 video.
Second audio track is "AC3 passthrough", which isn't in that list... So definitely an iMovie issue...

I wouldn't use HandBrake to prepare files for iMovie. Years ago I used Mpeg stream clip to convert to DV or Apple Intermediate Codec. Maybe it sill works.
