Sorry if this so obviously n00b (gah) but would like some clarification. According to the Anamorphic guide in the wiki, DVD resolution (PAL) is 720 * 576 - it doesn't mention units but I assume it means pixels.
I've just ordered a new Archos 605: http://www.archos.com/products/gen_5/ar ... al&lang=en which boasts a 800 * 480 screen - i make the ratio 1.6:1 - and I'm looking at Handbrake to encode some of my DVDs to put on it.
So should I set the output size of the video to match 800 * 480? The video will only be used on the Archos, so I figure I don't need Anamorphic (maybe I've misunderstood all that, though) and obviously stereo sound is fine.
But somehow upscaling the width of the original doesn't seem right. In fact will it even let me do that...?
Anyway, tips on how to set HB for best use with the Archos up would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

There's no point upscaling. Anamorphic doesn't do that - as I'm sure you realise - the width really is 720px, it just displays wider to match the increased vertical resolution.
You'll have to wait till you get your player to see if it supports anamorphic content, I suppose. If not, simply encoding at 720px wide - with Keep Aspect Ratio, not anamorphic - is probably your best bet.
