handbrake mp4 cannot be played in QuickTime

Posted: Wed Nov 13, 2013 9:06 pm

I tried to compress a large .mov file created in FCPx. The operation took several hours (program length was 2 hours). When I tried to open the Handbrake mp4 file in QuickTime, it would not play. (I used both QuickTime 10 and QuickTime 7).

Here is the Activity Log. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Did you have web-optimised turned on? It doesn't look like it.

Thanks, Gregi. You're correct I did NOT have large file turned on. This was my first spin around the block. I read (somewhere) that checking that box can result in a degradation of the video quality. I'll give it a go tonight before I go to sleep. This thing is a monster! Thanks, again.

This is not true. This setting has no effect on the raw video stream. It only affects how it is encapsulated.

Thank you, John.

Gregi and John... just wanted to let you know that checking the "Large File" box did the trick, and much faster than Compressor. It took 12 hours for Compressor to create a 720 file. Handbrake (with the correct settings!) did it in about 2 hours and it was 1080. Thanks, again, to you both for your help with this. I'm a free man!

Best,
Will
