I used the latest MTR to rip the disk; however, when I use Handbrake (latest version on Leopard and previous version on Tiger), it drops off the last 8 minutes of the movie. Has anyone else discovered this problem? When I watch the VIDEO_TS folder using VLC, the movie plays just fine. It's like Handbrake is not getting all the chapters, even though the main feature (Title 1 shows the right amount of runtime for the movie).
Enemy of the State encoded fine for me many moons ago. Like back in the MTRr13d days.

Got Bee Movie to rip and work with Apple TV.

Downloaded latest version of MacTheRipper. Under "Mode" I selected "Main Feature (ARccOS) Extraction" which then ripped the movie to a folder on my iMac.

Then using HandBrake version 0.9.2 I was able to use the "AppleTV" preset and convert the movie for use on the Apple TV. In HandBrake I selected the "VIDEO_TS" folder that's inside the Bee Movie folder that MacTheRipper put on my iMac once it was done ripping the movie.

Worked perfectly and the movie looks great!

Been using HB 0.9.1 for a month now. Can't encode Catch Me If You Can, Rush Hour 3, and Resident Evil 2 so far. The first two mentioned will only encode one chapter/scene. RE2 will get about 60% through it's 2nd pass and stall. My setting are below:

Format: MP4

Codecs: AVC/H.264 Video / AAC Audio

Video
Framerate: 23.976 (NTSC Film)
Encoder: x264 (h.264 iPod)
Quality: Average bitrate: 2500
2-pass encoding, Turbo first pass

The rest of the settings are defaulted.

You can search (in this thread) for Rush Hour 3. RE2 was simple with Fairmount + DTOX

Hello @ All

I'm a new member to this forum, but I've read a long time, before I checked in.
I already used forum search, but did not find the proper information.

I've problems encoding the movie "Das Boot". DVD is ripped to harddisk by MTR.
HB starts correctly on the file but crashes at the end of the encode.

Using Apple TV presets with 2-pass.

Is this a problem of the length of this movie?
Are there any presets, I can change to solve my problem?

BTW: MTR+HB+AppleTV= Perfect Videoserver :D

Just another problem movie: Bachelor Party (the one with Tom Hanks).

Encoded it three times with the ATV preset. Encode finishes, but everytime sound is far behind picture.
I ripped almost 50 of my DVDs right now, had no such problem before.

I tried ripping them with MacTheRipper and then using HB
I tried fairmount but, it kept freezing up my computer
I tried restarting my computer then trying HB again. It only does 0.01% of the film and then says that it's done.

I've tried ipod-high-rez
Ipod low-rez
AppleTV
Quicktime
Normal

I'm on a Mac OSX 10.4.11

@dynaflash: Using revision 1349 from svn on Leopard, I was able to scan Bee Movie, but HandBrake crashed somewhere near the end of the second pass when using the Film preset.

I actually got these two movies to work this afternoon. I used MacTheRipper 3R14 doing a full disk extraction then Handbrake.

Yep, it has been noted in many places on this forum that you should always do full disk extractions when wanting to use MTR with Handbrake. Glad you were able to get it to work for you.

I am ripping Enchanted right now with HB 0.9.2 on an Intel iMac running Leopard. SO far so good. I will post if it works or not.

It worked just fine.

I have been trying to rip Enchanted. Of course it's a Disney so it's going to be loaded with all kinds of protection. I first tried Mac the Ripper. Mac the Ripper was able to do a full disc extraction successfully. However, when I tried to play it back I could not start the film. All the menus, previews, and everything worked fine, and I could go to chaper selection and start in the middle of the movie just fine. But for some reason the feature gets stuck at the beginning, and when I try to select the first chapter it just hangs.

So I tried with Fairmount. It was able to rip it just fine, but the behavior was exactly the same as with Mac the Ripper. So then I tried to rip just the main feature with Mac the Ripper. This causes Mac the Ripper to simply crash.

My last attempt was with Handbrake to encode just the main feature. I selected Apple TV settings and this was successful. The movie plays back just fine.

My only complain is that I would really like to have the full dvd copy if possible. Does anyone know how to accomplish this with Enchanted?

Install Parallels and AnyDVD, rip, downsize as needed, burn and enjoy.

Sadly, quality DVD deprotection on the Mac doesn't really exist. AnyDVD is, in my opinion, the only game in town on any platform that can actually be relied upon without always wondering whether or not it will work (though this is my own opinion and not a formal endorsement - in other words, it works for me!).

Anyone figure out how to encode The Lion King (new platinum edition) or Shrek 2. I have tried both of them two ways.

1. Straight from disc using Handbrake 0.9.2 on Leopard.
2. Boot camp to Windows and use AnyDVD an rip to Hard Drive. Then try on HB 0.9.2 on Leopard.

Both cause HB to close/crash on last chapter and will not allow me to load as a source.

I am having troubles ripping Gridiron Gang. I was using the default settings. Any help would be appreciated. It scans for about 2 minutes and converts like 24 seconds of the movie and says it is done.

I tried ripping "Bee Movie" and "Flushed Away" and both crashed at the end of the initial scan on a MacBook Pro and an intel Mini, but both worked on an iMac G5 (although it took about 8hrs each). Sorry I don't have the crash logs right now.

I would wager its the diff in dvd drives. the macbook [Censored] superdrives are notoriously poor for ripping. On my mbp, a disk will fail on the superdrive, but as soon as I use my firewire pioneer drive it works fine.

I'll second that. The [Censored] and Hitachi LG superdrives are naff for ripping, especially for out of region discs. If you're serious about ripping/burning, a Pioneer burner in an external enclosure is a sound investment.
