How to specify max bitrate?

Post by gordonf238 »

I encode videos with Average Bitrate (kbps) set to 19000 for 1080p movies. However, certain movies with scenes where a lot of fine-detail is present (i.e. scenes with sparks, etc.) tend to freeze on my ATV (1080p version). When I evaluate the movie under Quicktime Pro, I see the bitrate spikes up well in excess to what ATV can handle in such scenes. Is there a shortcode to specify max bitrate in Handbrake?

Thanks a million ahead of time guys.

A quick search dug up this thread: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=24887&p=115379&hil ... te#p115379

Tjabo's search reminded me of something.

Back when the ATV3 was first introduced (and HB didn't have a preset for the device yet), Rodeo's advice was to add the following code to the Advanced box:

Code: Select all

vbv-bufsize=31250:vbv-maxrate=25000
Maybe that'll help some?
