Hi folks, been a while since i posted around here but ive got a situation...
ive been ripping movies to m4v file format with subtitles that only constitute to foreign language spoken...
so whenever someone speaks in a language thats not in english and the movie is in english majority, i burn subtitles for those parts...
Now im having trouble with the TV Series Game of Thrones...
Apparently the subtitle options available there is you either turn on the full english subtitle or no subtitle at all and not understanding what the hell the dathrakian's are talking about....
and theres no foreign language
Is it my only option to rewrite a new srt file only when the dathrakian speaks and merge the movie with an external SRT?

There are mostly 3 ways that I see subs being handled
1. single subs file with all subs and forced subs
in this case you would need to use forced subs check box
2. two subs files one with all and one with forced
in this case you would choose the second file
if you want the forced, you do not check forced subs in handbrake,
while yes the data in there is the forced data, its not set as forced data
so if you checked the force only box, you get nothing
3. there are also a couple of other odd ones out there, one off instances
in this case, test out the options with a preview, and see what works
To answer you question, If memory serves me well they are scenario 2
for game of thrones

Nah you see i bought my copy in the UK and when i checked.... theres only 1 English Subtitle... and thats the full version....
no i dont know if an SRT has lines where it pinpoint which lines are to be used for forced only but when i quickly look at it... it seems like the subtitles is a full one so no choice for me
my only options are...
1. go with the full (of which i dont like)
2. go with Creating an external SRT file where only the Dothraki Dialogues would show...
But apparently someone has this problem im facing and theres External SRT uploading on Piratebay... so all is good i suppose... now i need to see how the rip goes and if those external srt i downloaded are in sync with the ripped movie... but we'll see

Okay.... here is where i need SERIOUS SERIOUS help...
i managed to try and test out the use of that external SRT, after syncing the timing of the subtitles...
i had a trouble... when you use External SRT... i was not able to burn the SRT file onto the video...
is there anyways i can do it?? i managed to make a VOBSUB from the SRT file but i have no way to import an external VOBSUB...

Not with HB....
But.....
Use MakeMKV to rip original to MKV, use MKVMerge GUI (MKVToolnix) to mux in the VOBSUB, then process resultant file with HB.

Could you give me a step by step instruction how to do this?? because im struggling doing myself with MKVToolnix coming up with error codes

Is your source a Blu-ray or a DVD? What happens if you select Foreign Audio Search, with Forced Only and Burned In both checked? Provide the encode log for that test, as per the forum rules (see the red banner for instructions).

Hi folks, matters solved!!!
So heres what i did...
1. Rip Original to MKV, selected the correct title and create the MKV file using MakeMKV
2. on Windows... Using an application called Subtitle Creator http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SubtitleCreator to Convert SRT to VOBSUB
3. Move the VOBSUB files back to the Mac side
4. Open up MKVToolnix and open up the Created MKV, and added the VOBSUB that was move to mac after creation in Windows (Usually the .idx file)
5. Make sure all the chapters languages are fixed
6. Muxed them together, and i have myself a Muxed MKV
7. Open up Muxed MKV using Handbrake and Voila, the SRT now appears in the VOBSUB window where you can select it, checked Burn-in
8. Start the .mkv -> .m4v conversion
Im right now on the conversion but i'll give you guys a heads up how well it went when i manage to finish the conversion.
Hope this tutorial is helpful...

I have a hard time believing no forced subtitles were included on the DVD/Blu-ray. Because there is only one subtitle track doesn't mean some of the subtitles aren't flagged as forced.

The thing is... for a Forced Only to work... it believe it scans for a VOBSUB that is significantly smaller in size that corresponds to the idea that that vobsub would be the subtitles that come up on spoken foreign languages...Rodeo wrote:I have a hard time believing no forced subtitles were included on the DVD/Blu-ray. i could be totally wrong here...
since theres something called Foreign Audio language scan, but then again.... i dont really know how a VOBSUB works.... how do we know if a particular line in a VOBSUB is flagged for Forced Only??

that is to much relief a lot less work for me to get a perfect rip

Testing with the region 1 NTSC DVD set.
You can also select the English subs and Forced Only, and it will just do the Dothraki subs. However it won't show in the log how many forced subs there are.
Also, since I pre-ripped with MakeMKV, I didn't see any forced subs with MakeMKV. Of course that would have made it easy!
Easiest part to check is episode 3 chapter 8.
