Hi,
I used the AppleTV setting on Handbrake to convert two chapters of RED CLIFF, with two audio channels - a stereo (for iPod) and a 5.1 (for Apple TV).
But when I added them to iTunes the 5.1 track became stereo.
How do I import a video with 5.1 to iTunes so I can copy it to AppleTV?
Cheers.
importing 5.1 audio to iTunes???

What tells you that the 5.1 surround track was converted to stereo ?

Re: importing 5.1 audio to iTunes???
If I switch between audio tracks in iTunes, it has both marked as stereo.
Plus, when I played it through AppleTV and my sound system, it was only stereo.

Re: importing 5.1 audio to iTunes???
Hi there
I had the same problem and after extensive googling I found the answer.
Apple have changed iTunes and Apple TV preferences relating to the 5.1 playback (or rather encoded output).
To enable it in iTunes do the following:
1. Disable equalizer
2. Quit iTunes
3. Using terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal) type the following: defaults write com.cod3r.a52codec attemptPassthrough 1
4. Open iTunes and you're good to go.
iTunes disables encoded output for movies that haven't been purchased from the store. This re-enables it.
Not sure how to perform the same for Apple TV tho.
