I am new to all this, I have recently downloaded HandBrake and this is my first post.
I imported a FullHD 24 fps video from my HD camcorder using iMovie'08 and exported it from iMovie without any editing using QuickTime. The output video was a .MOV file with a H.264-encoded video at 1920x1080 24fps.
Then I used this .MOV file as source to HandBrake 0.9.4, which was then configured with the Normal preset and therefore output a .MP4 file with a H.264-encoded video also at 1920x1080 24 fps.
The thing is: when I use either QT or VLC 1.0.5 to playback the videos, the .MOV made with QT decodes nicely and smoothly, but the .MP4 file made with HandBrake plays all choppy, slow (5 or 6 fps for the parts that are played) and sometimes it just hangs. (In fact, this is a controlled attempt to understand what happens with pretty much all FullHD videos I transcoded using HandBrake...)
Is this the expected behaviour? Am I doing something wrong? Why a H.264 encoded with QT is fine but one with HandBrake is not?
My configuration is a Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz with 4 GB RAM running Mac OS 10.5.8 and no pending Apple software updates. QT is at 7.6.4 and I have Perian 1.2 as component installed. HandBrake again is 0.9.4 and VLC, 1.0.5.
