Ideal h264 settings for Powermac G5?

Post by cmendill »

Hello,

Before Handbreak 9.3 and Leopard came out, I can remember encoding h264 straight from DVD at >15fps on my 2x2GHz Powermac G5.
I lost track of my settings from those days, and now I can't find anything that gets >5fps.

My basic profile is h264 @ 2500kbps, for use on Apple TV.

G5 owners, what are your best performance video settings?

thanks

Good luck. It's slow going now on any non-Intel Mac. I've not found any good settings for a PowerPC Mac.

In terms of encoding speed on a ppc (or really any other processor) I would say that Basic > Classic is the fastest of the built in presets. It was the default setting for HB 0.7.1 (hence the name "Classic").

Don't expect too much from a quality standpoint, but for its speed it's really not that bad I guess.
