Finally got the subtitles to work. Using makemkv had to select the second English subtitles and forced subs. Then using handbrake in the subtitle window and selected the "0 - English - (bitmap) (PGS)" check burned in, don't check forced subs. All the subs appeared At the correct times

Thanks for this, it will make my backups much easier (and probably more attractive) in the future.

I'm finding this same problem with Kill Bill 2 Blu Ray, where the subtitle is stuck at 54:26 and remains on screen until the next forced subtitle at 56:16.

I found similar problems with Kill Bill 1 at 15:51 and goes to 41:06 (!) and from 1:37:13 to 1:40:01.

The rest of the subtitles work fine.

Thing is I ripped them with DVDFab 8.1.9.8 and not MakeMKV and the tracks are not forced, but on a separate track.

Also using HB nightly svn4884.

Did you have DVDFab rip them to MKV files or a BDMV folder?

BDMV. Didn't even know DVDFab could rip to MKV.

Yeah, Fab Ripper can do that, not Copy.

OK. Could you try a MakeMKV BDMV backup and see if you have the same issue?

Oh, and logs please. At this point we don't even know whether you're doing Passthru or Burn-In.

I've re-ripped Avatar with the new update to Make MKV 1.7.7, where they say that they have changed the way PGS subs are extracted. On there download page it states: "Bug Fix: Forced subtitles were extracted incompletely on certain blu-ray discs." Now when I bring in the new MKV file to handbrake, the pgs subs don't show up under the subs tab, nor does using "Foreign Audio Search" produce subs in the finished m4v file.

I check the file with MKvToolnix and the subs are there, but something has changed that prevents handbrake from seeing them? Toolnix shows two PGS sub tracks labeled S_HDMV/PGS (ID2, type: subtitles) and S_HDMV/PGS (ID2, type: subtitles)

Yes I am, I'm using and older version that did see subs before, (I think?) it is version: Build 4826, I'll update to see if the problem persists.

I just update to 4914 build and it now shows the PGS tracks, nothing like over looking the obvious, thanks phibertron

Yep; 0.9.8 was a bugfix release - no new features. For PGS subtitle support, you need to use a nightly.
