Latest Version

Post by Djp007s29 » Sun Jul 21, 2019 6:04 pm

Hello All,

I am new to this forum, using handbrake for quite while, found it to be the best software for enhancing video files.

I was just wondering if in any case handbrake will get an update for converting HD to 4K.

Appreciate the efforts put in by each and every developers for creating this wonderful software.

Regards

The current version should support 4k.

Alright, I will have to select H.264 MKV 2160p60 from Matroska preset.
Let me have a look if it can produce 40000 bitrate for 4K high Quality Video.

Looks like he's talking about Upscaling, not processing 4K to 4K.

The Command Line Interface allows upscaling (and the GUI likely will when we redesign the picture settings panel).
That said, it's better to *NOT* upscale 1080p to 4K and instead let the TV / Panel your displaying it on do the upscaling. It will almost always do a better job!

If I mis-understand and your just processing 4K content, then that already is supported. (So is 8K for that matter but you'd need to create your own preset for this )

@s55, I was indeed talking about upscaling, I did create a preset, but after converting it to 4K I checked the file with media info, I just couldn't find any pixel display size or bitrate, also the converting part was super fast, so I guess it really did not convert also the file size was not that of a 4K Video.

It won't upscale your content for you. As I said, that's typically best to the playback device to do as you'll get better results in most circumstances.

@s55 did that as well but after converting HD to 4K, the picture quality and the depth of color are just amazing, I used uniconverter for upscaling to 4K.

To get best results, first I converted my file to HD using Handbrake by applying appropriate filters and using RF = 0.5. There after applied 40000 bitrate while coverting the file to 4K and the results were just amazing compared to playing HD content where RF = 0.5

This is silly and ineffective. You haven't improved anything.
