Feature Request: ReplayGain implementation

Post by CoreyB »

I think it would be cool if HandBrake would have an implementation of ReplayGain.

What value does this have above and beyond iTunes Sound Check?

Last I heard, Sound Check utilises track peaks while ReplayGain uses RMS so it tends to be more accurate. Sound Check certainly does a great job of borking my Tool albums. ;)

Also, RG is cross platform for VLC at least.

TedJ: Shush. I knew that, but that actually makes it sound attractive and useful, which means sooner or later someone will invest actual effort in it. *LOL*

What I like to do is apply Max no-clip gain, so the video is as loud as possible, without clipping. I've experienced a large range of volumes for movies I have used.

iTunes Sound Check doesn't work on video files, only on audio files. This has always been the case.

HandBrakeCLI now supports the "--gain" argument. It sure would be nice to have it compute that value automatically for me so that my files all end up with the same average volume.
