Port to iPhone/iPod Touch

Post by fizk »

Hi,

I'm looking into porting Handbrake to the iPhone/iPod Touch. I've already ported FFmpeg to the iPhone
(http://code.google.com/p/ffmpeg4iphone).

Does anyone have suggestions or comments? Would anyone like to be involved?

Cheers,

From my work on porting FFmpeg, I realize that a lot of people are interested in using FFmpeg on the iPhone. Perhaps even more people would find FFmpeg on the iPhone even more useful to them if a GUI front-end was available.

Yes, but why on earth would you want to encode video on a phone? An iPhone video player I can understand, but the idea of trying to encode on a device that's going to be bound by CPU power, battery power and thermal management defies reason.

from spending time on ffmpeg-dev IRC and keeping up with the ffmpeg-devel mailing list the past several months, people are interested in this for more general solutions like listening to streaming radio or other multimedia apps -- not literally transcoding.

That being said, if you get HB working on the iPhone it would be fun as a novelty. I'm afraid not much past that though.
